4 Simple Steps to a Smooth Exit and Getting Your Deposit Back

27 May 2016

Summer is just around the corner we're sad to see you leave! To ensure your exit is as smooth as possible, just follow these four simple steps.

Exams are over – hurrah! The academic year is coming to an end and you’re getting ready to enjoy a few weeks study free. We’d like to take this opportunity to thank you for staying with Derwent Students and we hope to see you again soon!

To ensure that your move out goes as smoothly as possible and to avoid risking losing your deposit, we’ve put together some simple steps for you to follow:

1. Book your inspection

When you know the date that you’re looking to leave the accommodation, pop along to reception to book in your final inspection. A member of staff will arrange a suitable time to check over your room whilst you are present.

2. Leave it as you found it

Make sure that everything is to the same standard as it was when you moved in and as stated on your inventory. Your room will be professionally cleaned after your departure but you will be expected to leave the room at an exceptional level of cleanliness and all furniture should be intact.

3. Honesty is the best policy

Owning up to damage could save you money or save others sharing with you having to split the cost for something they didn’t do. Sometimes damage can be easily repaired or may not be as expensive as you expect. Speak to a member of staff about this before you depart your room to agree on what needs to be done.

4. Hand back your keys!

Ensure you hand back any keys you have when checking out of your room. At some of our properties, we issue a charge for any unreturned room or mail box keys, so be sure to hand everything back to avoid any problems. Oh and don't forget to give the accommodation team a BIG wave and FAREWELL as you leave! :)

Please speak to your Accommodation Team at reception if you have any queries or are unsure of anything. They will be more than happy to help. Alternatively, please contact our mainline on 0115 855 9670.
